In art class, we’ll be learning about and applying the elements and principles of art and design, with projects varying in media, duration and format. The year will be divided into media-based units (Basics, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture), and throughout these units we build on basic skills over the course of the year, working those skills into our various projects.

Many techniques are practiced in our sketchbooks before we do our deep dive into the real deal! Each project usually takes around 2-3 weeks to complete, with each student being encouraged to work towards achieving their own personal best, regardless of their perceived level of gifting. There will be a variety of fun projects, often with connections to famous artists, movements in art history, or Biblical principles, with God getting the credit for our creations!

The students will be encouraged to keep their best work in a “portfolio” that we make in class, and from which they’ll choose their best pieces to be submitted to the Spring Showcase art show. We know you’ll enjoy this class!
