CLASS
DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THE CLASS

Prerequisite: Completion of French 2 with a grade of B or higher.

This class will be comprised of two components—an independent study at home, and group speaking practice at bi-monthly meetings.

The goals of this class will be…

  • to further each student’s abilities in French speaking, reading, and writing

  • to further each student’s speaking ability in everyday life situations

  • to allow each student to move at his or her own pace

Independent Study
A study place including lessons, drills, and exercises will be made for the student by the teacher.  The student will move at his or her own pace through the study plan.  The student will also be assigned poetry to recite at meetings to check for pronunciation, as well as compositions to hand in.  These recitations and compositions will be catered to the student’s needs.

Meetings

The meetings will take place at the listed locations.  At meetings, the teacher will check in with the student’s progress and work through any challenging areas with the student.  The teacher will also have the student recite poetry and hand in any compositions assigned.  As a group, the students will engage in various activities to work on speaking French in context.  Students will also work together on projects such as creating a French newscast, a mini podcast, or a commercial.

Meetings will last approximately 2 hours.  Students may drive themselves or parents may drop their child off and leave or stay.

Child Protection
All meetings will be held in public places.  While the teacher will be meeting with the students individually to go over independent study progress, she will not be alone with any of the students.
