ABOUT THE CLASS

***Prerequisite: Completion of German 1 with a B- or better; or consent of the instructor.

This class is a continuation of German 1, and will build upon what students already mastered in German 1. Students will continue to develop and expand their knowledge and skills in German conversation, reading and writing. The second year will progress at a slightly faster pace, and new vocabulary and grammar concepts will be introduced.

Upon completion of German 2, students should be able to have basic conversations in German about themselves, their families, their surroundings, order at a restaurant, make basic purchases, and ask directions.

We will continue to learn about German culture, Geography and some important historical and political figures from current German-speaking countries. There will be weekly vocabulary quizzes (either written or oral), quarterly tests, and weekly written and listening/speaking homework activities.

Students will be expected to practice speaking in partner and group activities during class time.

Mini Reports

Fall Semester, students will give short reports in German on the German Bundesländer, leading up to a Geography Test on German regions, major cities and rivers. Spring Semester, each student will pick a famous German person and present a short poster report in German that will be read and presented to the class.
