About the Class

This ONLINE  (Pre-Recorded videos) Written communications 1 is ideal for the exploring writer who has a lot of the basics down.  We will delve into how to take notes from lectures, how to organize notes to help with studying, and citations and APA paper formatting.  

We will explore ideal short answers and short essay writing, learn about research strategies, and write a research paper from beginning to end.  We will also explore persuasive and personal essays, often found in applications and real-life situations.  We will also have a poetry unit where we study and create our own poetry.

Last, but not least, the fan favorite of last year: we will have a short story unit where we will break down all of the elements of fictional literature, learn how to create characters, scenes, and plots for short stories. Students will leave with more confidence in their writing and an ability to peer review others' work, edit, and know what to look for when self-editing their work.

** Students will need access to Google Classroom, Google Docs or Word, and possibly an email address to exchange papers for peer reviews.

***I will post lectures. However, I will also have “office hours” available by Zoom for students to ask questions or get help on their writing.

****Students will also have small groups where I will hold zoom meetings for them to peer review one another’s work and give feedback.
