This course is like a charcuterie of science.  We start with 8 weeks of introduction to the alphabet of all materials of the universe, the periodic table of elements.  We will learn about elements, how atoms make molecules and DNA.  

 

We will then explore the smallest living thing, cells, then tissues, organs and organisms.  Ecosystems and biomes are introduced and various physics of the human body are discovered.  

 

Class time will be filled with activities and labs.  It is crucial students come to class prepared, having previously read (or listened to) text and completed assignments.  Tuition fees will cover all perishable/non-reusable lab materials, dissections and paper/copying costs.

CLASSROOM GOALS:
We will cover the main ideas and concepts during class and apply our understanding with hands-on labs and dissections.  We will take notes and do various activities in addition to the labs from the textbook, to help us understand the concepts as well.

 

SCIENCE HOMEWORK:
To fully master these new concepts students need to read (or listen to) the assigned text each week and answer the comprehension check questions spread through the chapter, using a separate plain notebook to write answers.  You are free to print all of the comprehension questions that are in the textbook,  from the Berean Builders site for free, if you prefer to keep the comprehension check questions written with the student answers.  

 

 

On the Berean Builders site, click on the Science in the Atomic Ages textbook, then on the left side, click “product resources” and print the “student worksheets” or “student workbook.”  The workbook is the same plus pictures. Due to the large volume of material, and to maximize class time, tests will be take-home.  We also have a few assigned projects to complete outside of class for some chapters, instead of tests.

**Optional**  Science in the Atomic Age, audio book. On the Berean Builders website, search, “audio.”  It is $21.  If you want to hear a sample, look on Amazon, but buy from Berean Builders, Amazon is way more expensive.  This is a fabulous option to help students learn these new concepts without being bogged down by the new science language and to keep on track.  It is highly recommended, in addition to the textbook, if possible.
