DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THE CLASS
This is a class for students in grade 4/5/6/7/8 to continue their musical studies on violin, viola or cello. Generally, these students are going into their 2nd year of playing.
PREREQUISITE: Just 1 year of experience, either having taken Beginning Orchestra with Mrs. Slominski last year or has at least 1 year previous experience with private lessons.
We will continue our work in the same book from last year- String Basics Book 1. Homework includes weekly practice on your instrument: 3-4 times a week for 15 minutes per practice time. Students will learn to read more advanced music and rhythm notation. We will also learn about important composers and hymns.

*It is recommended to get a rental or purchase of your instrument and materials lined up in August OR EARLIER to be sure to have everything in hand by September.

**Note: This class follows the Elementary schedule (generally the first 3 weeks, just 60 minutes for the
7th-8th graders)

String Basics Book 1 for your instrument:

Violin, viola, cello or bass your size- available through -Brickhouse Music in River Falls or All Strings Attached in Stillwater.

Case, bow, rosin, cleaning cloth. Shoulder rest or sponge for violin/viola, or rock stop for cello/bass.

Music stand - will need to bring to class weekly. Folding music stand works great.
