ABOUT THE CLASS

This is a class for students in grade 5-12 to continue their musical studies on violin, viola or cello. Generally, these students are going into their 3rd year of playing (5th-8th grade) or 2nd year (9th-12th).

PREREQUISITE: Either 2 years of experience in orchestra/violin class, or be in grades 7-12 with 1+ years of experience.

We are bringing together students potentially from 3 different classes last school year and will use the String Basics Book 1, Essential Elements Book 2, as well as sheet music.

Homework includes weekly practice on your instrument: 3-4 times a week for 15 minutes per practice time. Students will learn to read more advanced music and rhythm notation. We will also learn about important composers and hymns.

PERFORMANCE DATES:

  • Winter Concert on January 12

  • Spring Concert on April 20

  • Spring Showcase on April 27

*It is recommended to get a rental or purchase of

your instrument and materials lined up in August OR EARLIER to be sure to have everything in hand by September.

**Note: This class follows the Elementary schedule (generally the first 3 weeks, just 60 minutes for the

7th-12th graders)

***Note 2 : Kari Slominski will be teaching September, and January-May. Substituting for Kari Oct-Dec will be: Nissa Pieper - Email: nissa.pieper@gmail.com
